This booklet is designed to help you, as a spiritual leader, pray for those to whom you minister. Your role as a pastor or spiritual leader has great influence in the life of your church and the people you serve. We see in Paul’s life a faithfulness to pray for those he came to know through his ministry. Not only did he give his life for those he served, but he also poured out his heart in prayer on their behalf.

We find a wonderful sample of Paul’s faithful prayer for the church at Colossae in Colossians 1:9-12:

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

This passage gives great guidance to use in praying for those you are serving. Each section of this booklet uses a portion of this passage as topical direction for your prayers.

Life on the Altar – Dr James B Law

The themes set forth in Romans 12, where believers are called to present themselves to God as living sacrifices, drive the conversation in this book. We are summoned to the altar of God’s presence through the finished work of Christ on our behalf. The Christian life is presenting ourselves to Him every moment, of every day, all the days of our life. This is what I am calling, “Life on the Altar.”

The pattern is repeated again and again throughout Scripture, yet is seldom (if ever) heard from our pulpits. Because I have found alliteration to be a great help to my memory, I began to assign alliterated words to this pattern of discipleship that seems to be repeated in Scripture.

This book is designed to walk you through the pattern used in Scripture that can be replicated in your life and in your church.

Discipleship Preaching – Dr. Rob Finley

There is a distinct pattern that Jesus used in training His original twelve disciples. Jesus and the disciples employed the exact same pattern when they began to disciple the 70 and then again with the 120.
